Though it is not meant to be swallowed, gum is usually nontoxic and is not expected to cause symptoms when swallowed in small amounts.
However, nicotine gum is highly toxic. If your child ate or chewed nicotine gum, call IPC immediately at 1-800-222-1222.
Symptoms of Poisoning
Eating a small amount of gum usually does not cause any symptoms. If your child swallowed 1 or 2 pieces, give them a few sips of water.If your child swallowed a large amount of gum, they may experience vomiting, constipation, abdominal bloating and pain or changes in bowel habits. Call IPC at 1-800-222-1222 if your child starts experiencing symptoms.
