Acetone is an ingredient used in many nail polish removers. Non-acetone nail polish removers, such as ones that include methyl acectate, may be more toxic. If your child ate a non-acetone nail polish remover, call IPC immediately at 1-800-222-1222 for advice specific to your situation.
Symptoms of Poisoning
If your child ate nail polish remover that contains acetone, give them a few sips of water and monitor for nausea, vomiting, lack of coordination or drowsiness. If more than a sip/mouthful is ingested or if symptoms develop, call IPC immediately at 1-800-222-1222.Eye Exposure
- Acetone may cause irritation if exposed to eyes.
- If your child got acetone in their eyes, rinse by pouring clean, lukewarm water across the affected eye(s) for 15 minutes.
