Toxikon Consortium
The Toxikon Consortium is a clinical educational partnership between the Illinois Poison Center (IPC), Cook County Health and Hospital System and UI Health. Our mission is to provide excellence in clinical care, training, education and research related to poisonings.
- Clinical Care: Toxikon medical toxicologists provide medical back up to IPC 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. They provide medical toxicology sub-specialty treatment recommendations to healthcare providers across the state for the most critically ill patients in their care.
- Training and Education: Emergency medicine residents, medical students, and pharmacy students and residents can attend monthly rotations and receive in-depth education on the treatment of the poisoned patient. Activities include conferences, lectures, journal club, case group discussion on common overdose treatment, a week-long rotation at the IPC call center and daily rounds on patients in the care of the Toxikon Consortium.
- Research: Toxikon Consortium faculty and fellows are engaged in clinical and bench research to further advance knowledge in the field of toxicology.
